21st Century Street Party?!

Street parties were a treasured tradition in the UK, usually to celebrate Coronations and the like. Nowadays, people move so much and commuting means getting to know your neighbours can be the last thing on your to do list. So when one of our neighbours knocked on our door one evening, it was a surprise that she was actually inviting us to a street party.

So this Sunday all the cars on the street were moved, bunting was put up, balloons, tables crammed
with food. And thank goodness the weather managed to hold out and it was hot and sunny with a slight breeze.

Everyone was asked to cook, bake or buy a contribution to the food table, so I decided to bake so lemon cupcakes - any excuse to bake, really! The recipe I used is here.

I also made little flags to label the cakes but wrapping washi tape around cocktail sticks, it was totally coincidental that they matched the cases, I swear!

When was the last time you attended a street party? Or have you ever?
